After getting London and Maddie a Libby Lu Do (Hannah Montana hair, nails, and make-up) during last year’s trip to Disneyland in Anaheim, California, I recently recommended Libby Lu in the Rockaway Mall as a birthday or holiday party venue for tween girls. I’ve just learned that Saks Inc. is shutting down the entire unprofitable Club Libby Lu chain, five years after buying the Chicago-based start-up and three years after exploring its potential sale. The Club Libby Lu chain, purchased in 2003 for $12 million, had 11 stores at the time and had grown to 78 stand-alone shops and 20 locations within department stores once owned by Saks. Reports say that Club Libby Lu’s closing should be completed by the end of January 2009, so if your little girl wants a Hannah Montana hairdo, get the party (or play-date) started during the holiday season.
